From TMO|Radio: Mambajahambo!
Lots of folks have been picking up the TMO|Radio podcast, and plans are underway to bring you more of the hiphopfunksouldiscolatinjazz goodness in bigger helpings in 2007...this week, though, TMO brings back a special mix from Summer 2006 to help burn off the midwinter slush; Mambajahambo! Volume One. A twisted-up junk drawer mix of random blends, club joints and guilty 80s pleasures, all designed to help you escape to the rooftop BBQ jumping off in your private mind garden. Turn up and enjoy.
TMO promises more design work with Omar Sosa
The Midwest Offices continues its relationship with Grammy-nominated jazz pianist Omar Sosa - we'll be designing "Promise," a new CD release put out in conjunction with NDR (North German Radio) and Hamburg's Skip Records. Look for it sometime in March 2007. Also - check out the review for another TMO-designed release of Sosa's, Live à FIP, online at All About Jazz and an Utne Reader review can be found here.
NPR + TMO bring a little .ch to TX
Marfa, Texas: Jett Rink, Judd boxes, Jeff Bezos, the Cohens, and - alphorns? TMO is happy to announce that we'll be working with Marfa NPR on some upcoming projects, including promotional items for their future pledge drives and posters for upcoming shows in Marfa sponsored by NPR.
Extracurricular TMO Activities
We firmly believe in the idea that designers are, by nature, curious and a little bit oddball - well, come to think of it, that oddball bit probably describes pretty much everybody. But no matter; below is a random collection from TMO's curio cabinet - you can sample an array of its articles, essays, blog-esque shout-outs and, of course, random mixes pulled from the podcast library of our in-house soundsystem, TMO|Radio.
TMO Radio
TMO principal Matthew Manley's alter-ego, DJ O-Nice, has been spinning hip-hop, soul and funk gems since 1989, and now he shares the wealth. Grab the TMO|Radio podcast (or get it through iTunes here) for a weekly 60-minute dose of crate classics, mixed up live on two turntables the old-school way - no laptops!
Duly Noted:
.CA typography via Coupe.
TMO will probably need a Late Pass to beg off not finding out about this magazine sooner, but
Coupe Magazine - put out by Canadian design studio The Bang - has some really wonderful stuff inside its covers. The current issue (#15) is
wall-to-wall found typography, shot raw in the streets for armchair flexing of your
inner Ed Fella. Really nice stuff - now if only someone could keep Saturday Night alive up there...
I imagine you can cop this magazine at your usual monolithic large bookstores, but if Chicago folks find themselves in the mood for a field trip you can get it at the wonderful City News.
